Ondrej Safranek, a spokesman for the Prague firefighters, says the fire broke out shortly after 7 p.m. (1700GMT) Thursday. He says it has destroyed one wing of the Industrial Palace at the Exhibition Ground in Prague.
Safranek says it took 90 minutes to get the fire under control. Two firefighters have been injured, he said. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
The palace was built in the Art Nouveau style in 1891. It has been used as an exhibition hall and concert venue.
During the 41 years of the communist rule that ended in 1989 the Communist Party held its congresses in the palace.
