CHARLESTON, S.C., Nov. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a release from the Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester Libertarian Society:

The Randy Maatta for U.S. Congress campaign slogan is "Had enough?" The incumbent Congressman Henry Brown claims that he does not understand what it is that Maatta has had enough of, and attempts to dismiss the Maatta mantra by ranting, "taxes are low," "the South Carolina economy is strong," and "unemployment is down." Clearly, Brown does not want to talk about the number one issue on the minds of SC 1st Congressional District voters - the War in Iraq.

The War in Iraq is currently a $314 billion mistake, with no end in sight! Brown hasn't mentioned how we the people will pay for this war, or when. Instead he supports borrowing money from foreign nations and increasing the national debt, thus depreciating the value of every dollar in your wallet, to fund the War in Iraq. Since 2001, the U.S. government has borrowed $1.5 trillion from countries like China and Japan. In 2006, the interest only owed to foreign nations by the U.S. reached $220 billion. Interest is now the fastest growing component of U.S. government spending.

Over 2,800 U.S. troops have been killed in Iraq. Nearly 20,000 have been severely injured. Approximately 10,000 are now permanently disabled. Depending on your source, 30,000 to 650,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed since the U.S. invasion began on March 20, 2003. Over 1.6 million Iraqis have fled their homes and country. Iraq is in a civil war, regardless of what the Bush Administration calls it, with U.S. troops caught in the crossfire. Only two percent of the resistance U.S. troops encounter in Iraq is the result of an insurgence. The real resistance is coming from Iraqis civilians that simply want to rid their country of an occupying army.

Brown supports the Halliburton no bid contracts. Along with its subsidiary KBR, Halliburton has absorbed billions of U.S. tax dollars, earmarked to rebuild Iraq, for its own overhead and profit. Last week Halliburton reported that its third-quarter net income rose 22 percent with third-quarter revenue rising 19 percent to $5.8 billion.

Brown also appears oblivious to the fact that the Bush administration was planning the invasion of Iraq in March 2001, six months before the 9/11 attacks and two years before the U.S. invaded Iraq. Brown has proudly and publicly stated that he always votes in support of President Bush and the party line. After six years in the U.S. Congress, it should be clear to voters that it makes no difference to Brown how crooked the line is that he supports. His loyalty is to the line and not to his constituents.

Think of it this way. If a corporation loses $314 billion in three years because of "faulty intelligence," the shareholders would demand that the CEO and entire board of directors be terminated. If its mismanagement and incompetence contributed to the death of 2800 workers, people would lose their jobs. Heads would roll and some people would end up in jail!

If Brown has such a diminished mental capacity that he is unable to face reality, debate challengers, and address Halliburton and the War in Iraq, then he is unfit to serve as the U.S. Congressman for the 1st Congressional District of South Carolina.

Had enough? The Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester Libertarian Society endorses Randy Maatta for the U.S. Congress. Maatta understands that the U.S. must change course in Iraq. Brown wants to stay on Bush's course; a collision course wrought by arrogance, waste, and deception.
