The telephones are ringing with instructions from the likes of Gary Bauer to be sure and vote the Republican ticket on Nov. 7 in order to save our "pro-life" family values and babies from those satanic Democrats.
Bishop Loverde of the Arlington Diocese joins many of his fellow bishops in yet again telling us how to vote the "pro-life" Republican slate, while under the watchful eye of our "Christian" Republican Party in control of the White House and congress as well we have witnessed the most scandalous, deceitful, often tyrannical government in recent memory.
A traditional Catholic with nine children and 18 grandchildren, is it such an unholy thought to see the absurdity of so many of the "pro-life" leaders with their stated respect for life joining the Bush-Cheney-Rove machine in preemptive bombing of innocent civilian populations' men, women and children (against the teaching of John Paul II and Mother Theresa), cluster bombing civilians, open end imprisonment without charges, rendering and torture, all without an audible question from our "pro-life" spiritual leaders? Is the really the stuff of "respect for life"?
It is clear that "pro-life" leaders have become surrogates of the Republican Party through such vehicles as Faith Based Initiative and other tax revenues. In so doing, time honored safeguards of separation of church and state are grossly violated, severely damaging the integrity of both institutions as Benedict XVI, Toqueville and many others have so wisely pointed out.
In their knee-jerk subservience to the Republican Party with its outrageously anti-life actions, such bishops and Catholic Intelligentsia are effectively destroying the credibility of the "pro-life" position with incalculable deleterious consequences for Christianity itself.
