ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The College of St. Catherine School of Health will host Healthcare and Higher Education: Catholic Partnerships for Workforce and Leadership Development, Oct. 26-28, at the College's St. Paul campus, 2004 Randolph Ave., St. Paul, Minn.

This first-ever summit will bring together leaders from the nation's Catholic healthcare systems and Catholic colleges and universities engaged in healthcare education to forge new partnerships that will address critical workforce and leadership development needs.

Participants will hear from national experts on workforce shortages, the need to train more healthcare workers as leaders, innovative curriculum and clinical models, and the growing influence of technology in healthcare education.

The summit is sponsored by the St. Catherine School of Health and supported by a grant from the John and Susan Morrison Family Foundation.

The keynote address on Sunday, Oct. 26, will be delivered by Sister Carol Keehan, DC, president and CEO of Catholic Health Association based in St. Louis, MO and Washington, D.C. Recognized by Modern Healthcare magazine as the "Most Powerful Leader in Healthcare in 2007," Sister Keehan oversees the nation's largest group of not-for-profit health care sponsors, systems and facilities.

Her address will be followed by Liturgy at 5 p.m. with presider, Rev. Larry Snyder, President and CEO, Catholic Charities USA.

Named one of the nation's top nonprofit executives of 2008 by The NonProfit Times, Reverend Snyder advocates for greater investment in social welfare policies to reduce hunger, increase access to healthcare, support economic security for families, and ensure safe and affordable housing.

Plenary sessions at the summit include "Critical Workforce Needs and Innovative Educational Responses," "The Crisis in Primary Healthcare: Preparing for and Creating Change Through Educational Innovation" and "Transformational Leadership for Healthcare: System Challenges and Educational Solutions."

The College of St. Catherine launched its School of Health in September 2007 to integrate its academic programs in healthcare and develop new programs, as well as create more partnerships with healthcare organizations and community-based clinics.

With the aim of creating strategies that transform healthcare education as the needs of health and healthcare evolve, the College of St. Catherine School of Health currently enrolls more than 2,000 students and employs more than 200 faculty members in 22 healthcare programs.

Scholarships are available. For more information or to register, visit www.stkate.edu/healthcaresummit or call (651) 690-7702.
