ROSEMONT, Ill., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Ira D. Cheifetz of Princeton Junction, NJ, was voted President-elect of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons during the Association's 90th Annual Meeting, Scientific Sessions and Exhibition in Seattle, Wash., September 16-21, 2008. Dr. Cheifetz assumes this position following a one-year term as the association's Vice President.

"As President-elect of the AAOMS, I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Board of Trustees to further the goals of the Association and to help our fellows and members provide the full scope of OMS practice to their patients."

Dr. Cheifetz has been an active member of the Association for many years, having served two, two-year terms as the organization's treasurer prior to his election to the vice presidency. He has also spent several years as a delegate in the AAOMS House of Delegates, and is a past chair of the AAOMS Committee on Practice Management and Communication, and a former member of the Committee on OMS Professional and Allied Staff.

Dr. Cheifetz is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and an AAOMS fellow. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, the New Jersey Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.

Dr. Cheifetz earned his dental degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts. He completed a general practice residency in Flushing, New York, and his OMS residency at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He and his partners Sean Bradley, DMD, and Jonathon Sasportas, DMD, maintain a private practice with offices in Mercerville, East Windsor and Princeton, NJ.

More than 5,000 registrants, including oral and maxillofacial surgeons from around the world, attended the AAOMS Annual Meeting where they conducted association business, discussed surgical procedures, earned continuing education credits and met with dental industry suppliers.
