WASHINGTON, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Retired Brigadier General David (Dave) McGinnis delivered the following statement regarding Veterans for America's recent report: "The Alaska Army National Guard: A 'Tremendous Shortfall.'"

"The on-going nationwide research by Veterans for America assessing the needs of the National Guard, like the segment on their work in Alaska that was released today, provides an important outcome assessment that we can use to measure the commitment of state and national political and military leaders to our troops."

"This work is extremely important to the well being of our military members and their families, especially those of our National Guard. This independent, privately funded effort assesses how well the needs of our serving families are being met, when the service member is deployed, and how well the needs of our veterans and their families are being met upon the veteran's return home. Its importance to our National Guard and their dedicated families is highlighted by a long history of our National Guard being an afterthought within the Staffs of our Military Services and among senior civilians in the Pentagon."

Brigadier General David "Dave" McGinnis was the Chief of Staff of the National Guard Association of the United States. McGinnis served as director of strategic plans and analysis for the Honorable Deborah R. Lee, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. He served two tours in Vietnam before leaving the active Army in 1972 and joining the New York National Guard that same year. In 1990, he became branch chief of the force management division at National Guard Bureau (NGB) in Washington. Subsequent assignments included Deputy Chief from 1991-92 and Director from 1992-1993.
