News Advisory:
A new study reveals a dramatic increase in student enrollment in online learning courses throughout the country, with up to 50 percent increases in some states, according to the North American Council for Online Learning (NACOL). The results of the study will be highlighted at the Council's annual conference in Dallas, Nov. 5-7.
The conference -- the 2006 Virtual School Symposium -- brings together more than 500 teachers, administrators, and policy makers representing virtual schools and online learning programs for grades K-12.
"Online learning is opening access and opportunity for all students by providing high quality courses and highly qualified teachers over the Internet -- regardless of their neighborhood or geography," said NACOL president Susan Patrick. (Patrick is the former director of the Office of Educational Technology at the U.S. Department of Education, where in 2005 she published the visionary National Education Technology Plan.)
At the conference, the nation's leading online learning experts and researchers will share information on innovative programs, new instructional and funding models, and building virtual schools and online learning programs. The full program of speakers and panels is available on the NACOL Web site (http://www.NACOL.org).
EDITOR'S NOTE: Coverage of the conference is invited. NACOL president Susan Patrick and speakers are available for interviews.
