Richmond-based marketing firm wants to deliver 5,000 pounds of cat and dog food to Meals on Wheels

RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With the current economic crisis hitting every family and every nonprofit organization, pets are often overlooked.

The Hoople Group is looking to help Meals on Wheels in Central Virginia by donating dog and cat food so people don't have to make the choice between feeding their pets or feeding themselves.

Peter Kaufman, co-owner of the Hoople Group said, "We're concerned with feeding people, but animals are often overlooked. We're trying to bring attention to this issue and do something about it quickly. Hopefully, giving will become part of people's regular activities and Meals on Wheels will benefit by collecting thousands of pounds of pet food, PLUS food for families who are in need in Central Virginia."

While working at Wachovia Securities, Hoople Group founders Kaufman and Heidi Workman participated in a pet food drive and they brought this idea to the Hoople Group.

Heidi Workman added, "It's a simple idea...we want to help people and their pets."

Kaufman continued, "My grandfather Herman drove for Meals on Wheels in Harford, CT for decades and he always impressed upon his grandchildren the importance of getting involved and giving back."

Here is how you can get involved:

1. Gather as much cat and dog food as you can. The food must be either in bags or in pop-top cans -- nothing that requires a can opener. 2. Gather the food as individuals, school groups, civic organizations, neighborhood associations...be creative. 3. You may bring the pet food directly to Meals on Wheels at 1600 Willow Lawn Drive in Richmond. Please make sure you call before going to make sure they're open. Please let us know you donated so we can keep track of your donation. 4. Or, we would be happy to pick up the food. Contact us by email at peter@hooplegroup.com or call us at (804) 447-4032. We'll deliver it as soon as we get it, and your organization will be recognized by Meals on Wheels as well as on http://www.hooplegroup.com.
