WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- An expert in environmental and strategic communications, Robin Murphy, formerly of Conservation International (CI), has been appointed vice president for external relations at the World Resources Institute (WRI).

Mr. Murphy, who joins WRI today, will lead the organization's efforts to enhance its communications profile. This will include developing media relations, utilizing innovations in information technology, and promoting messages that draw upon WRI's wealth of experience with science, policy analysis and on-the-ground initiatives.

"The stakes that come with climate change, economic development and sustainability challenges are enormous," said Jonathan Lash, WRI president. "We're delighted that Robin will be bringing his skill and judgment to develop accurate and compelling communications efforts about WRI's analysis and real- world experience."

Murphy's professional background includes serving as vice president of communications, marketing and education for Conservation International. He championed CI's extraordinary expansion and fundraising efforts, and was a key figure in repositioning the organization's brand and identity.

He has over 30 years experience in nonprofit communications and campaigns. Among his many accomplishments, he spent 10 years with Porter Novelli working on social marketing and communications, was a senior vice president with Rogers and Cowan in Los Angeles, and served as a grantmaker for the National Endowment for the Arts.
